Hi,

We are getting a unusual issue which happens every once in a while. We use Chromebooks in a majority of our classrooms for students to access MyMaths. On some occasions when students are logging into MyMaths they get a big bold error message saying "CONTENT BLOCKED". We are not sure if this is to do with ourSmoothwall filtering that is blocking this but we have allowed MyMaths to be accessed as it was previously being blocked because of the games. When the student has cometo us with the issue we log into our test student acccount which successfully logins in with the students MyMaths credentials.

Does anyone know why we're getting this 'Content Blocked' message as it happens rarely.

Thanks.

The easiest thing to do is check the Smoothwall dashboard for recent blocks, as the content may have a different domain name to the main MyMaths site. Also, have you 'allowed' or 'whitelisted' MyMaths?

We can not see if its being blocked as it only comes up with the IP of the chromebook which is no use to use as we need to see what student cannot access MyMaths. It is indeed whitelisted as it was previously being blocked because of the games on their. Our filtering blocks all games during student working hour so they cannot doodle around in class playing games. But its not like it is happening every single day it happens once in a while which is then preventing thta student from learning.

Unless you are using a different Smoothwall system to us (which is highly likely), when you first log in to the admin portal there should be a section showing Recent Blocks, like this:

If not, go to the web filter logs and check there. You can search it by time and IP address to narrow it down. This will show you any blocked URLs that you can add to your list of allowed content.

I found that it wasn't enough to add MyMaths to the allow list, I also had to ignore recommended security rules too.

Its not like we're having this issue every single day it happens every once in a while. It was when the student clicked on 'Online Homework' which then blocked them. MyMaths is allowed so I dont see why we get this problem on occations.

I've come across this many times since we've switched over to Smoothwall. The problem is that even though you've allowed the MyMaths site, the flash object is pulling content from a different site or host which IS blocked. I usually have to look at the site code to see where it is coming from then allow that. It's a pain.
