randle Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 (edited) Hi, I'm having a problem that appears to be very common with Windows 10 build 1511 deployed in a domain environment. Basically the search feature on the task bar doesn't work when logged on as a domain user but is fine as the local administrator. I've been investigating this for some time now and is obvious that it's a permissions issue but trying to narrow this down to what on where is not quite so straight forward. It would seem that the 'ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES' user is the key here but that's as far as I've got. I've removed all GPOs from this computer for testing purposes and to rule them out as a cause as apparently file/registry permissions in these can throw things out. I've also run the very common PS code below which has helped others by the looks of it but made no difference here. Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers |Where-Object {$_.InstallLocation -like “*SystemApps*”} | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”} This is a fresh installation so really shouldn't need a re-register at this stage. Regardless I ran it for good measure. Anyone else had this problem and managed to work around it? Edited May 16, 2016 by randle

randle Posted May 20, 2016 Author Posted May 20, 2016 (edited) If I had any hair left I would be pulling it out about now! I've ruled out GPOs by logging on as a domain user with none applied on the user or computer so has to be a permissions based-issue. I'm taking it that either others haven't had this issue or not yet deployed this build as surely I can't be alone with this!? I've deduced that removing all GPOs removes the custom setting factor so must be permissions. I have noticed that the local user profiles are not picking up the ALL APPLICATION PACAKGES local security group in their ACL regardless of adding this to the parent directory manually which I'm pretty sure plays a part in this, however, when attempting to manually add this group to the user folder, it gives me an "access is denied" message on the Temporary Internet Files folder which another thread in another forum suggested fixed this for them! windows 10 - Win10 Cortana failing with "Activation of app [...] CortanaUI failed with error: The remote procedure call failed" - Super User. The security tab is not present on the Temporary Internet Files folder above so can't manipulate this manually and taking ownership of the user profile folder and replacing owner on subcontainers and objects doesn't help either which I find a little strange Edited May 20, 2016 by randle
