Every month we must have 4/6 failed updates on clients which we can never clear other than a re-image.

Although a re-image is probably quicker, Ideally I would like to be able to fix these other than a re-image.

Is there any other processes people use other than the ones listed below for fixing these failed client updates?

  • Manual update
  • update failed updates by downloading individual files from MS
  • stop WU service and rename "Softwaredistribution" folder, start WU service and re check.
  • Script to delete WSUS id`s and "detect now"

Cheers

I've had over heating PCs and bad drives cause errors wouldn't know how to automate a protocol for that. Oh and users who do power off the PC. I hate to admit it but a WDS re-image is so slick now I rarely take the time to troubleshoot. a nearly guaranteed fix with a known time scale is just sweet.

Your right, a re-image is a lot quicker than manually trying to fix WU issues. We just image them here to save time, like you said, the main culprits I`m sure are pupils\staff switching PC`s off whilst in the middle of updating.

It would be nice to be able to fix them other than re-image (just for a knowledge perspective more than anything) but it does waste hours trying to fix them.
