Got a couple of new build classrooms that the two teachers say their PC's keep getting BSD. Have swapped PC's and still got issues. Got same PC's in other school classrooms and no complaints there. Only thing I can think of are that the power supply is causing issues, i.e spikes etc Could power spikes cause BSD's? Next option as far as I can see is to put a surge protected power bar in and see if that makes a difference...any other thoughts?

I've used an energy monitor plug to help diagnose under/over voltage. All I wanted it to tell me is the mains voltage supply when the computers started misbehaving...

This is the one I used, but I paid something like £ 5 for it from a local supplier.

The good thing about a UPS, is the software can keep track of what happened and cleanup the supply if needed.

I bought this UPS, which helped when we had to approach UK Power Networks, who in turn did more diagnosis and confirmed the supply was outside the statutory limits for 230 Volts +10% and -6% (253 – 216 Volts). We were sometimes getting 202 volts!!!

Ah i had something alike back in my own house. What is the BSOD error code your receiving anyway?

Also a good thing to check is the voltage usage of the power supply, try hwinfo HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download and check the power supply voltages, if they flux to much, could be a indication of power input failure to the power supply.

Then it be a check if a surge would be helpful, and using tools if you have any to check the sockets power out-take.

I had a similar issue in some portacabins. I had machines that refused to boot - like they had a PSU failure, but when they were removed to another part of the building they worked fine. This was eventually narrowed down to a cable fault which meant that when a high draw was placed up on it there was a +/- leak and the PSUs were protecting themselves.

Power issues do some funny things to PCs.

We had a laser printer that was misbehaving and it ended up being something to do with the electricity. A small/cheap UPS should help solve your issue.

Thanks for replies, have put a surge protected adaptor on see if that makes a difference. If it requires anything else that will be going to builders as its a new build extension from last year so someone else can pay!
