Interactive Whiteboard/ TV

I have been asked to look into whiteboard ideas that doesn't use a projector. So I'm guessing they want an 80" tv-type touchscreen whiteboard that displays presentations etc. Does anyone use anything similar? Got any ideas of companies? I've been researching, however other than the SmartBoard don't really know what else to suggest.

Had some Sahara Clevertouch units at my last school. Really good. No projector, no blinding the teacher, no shadows cast on the board. If you use SMART Notebook, check about licensing though, as SMART charge you to use something other than a SMART Board.

@Mel_16 there are lots of interactive panels on the market. The most common size that we (VeryPC) supply is 65 inch screens as this is the size that fits most schools budgets. There are a lot of manufactures who make 80+inch screens but do note that they are not cheap. A rough price on screens is the following

 

65 inch - £1500 - £2200

70inch - £2000-£3000

80inch+ - £4200+

 

If you are considering a LARGE screen that do check what your walls are as these are very heavy.

At VeryPC we can supply a wide range of screens in all the sizes above and more so do feel free to get in touch.

 

Before you choose a size, brand and model do try and get some demo units in and have the teachers test and trial them say over a week.

We do a full range from 42" - 84".

 

Most popular sizes being 65" / 70" and 79". Our 79" is closest in area to the most popular IWB sizes (typically 77/78") but you may find you can go slightly smaller because of the clarity and brightness of the screens.

We have about 10 SMART interactive TVs and we have just got 2 Prowise boards. Both very nice, biggest change is that picking up the pen doesn't choose the pen tool like the IWBs did. Can confuse teachers for a bit. Your biggest concern will be can your walls take them. We have had to have stud walls strengthened as the the screens are a lot heavier than the old IWBs.

 

I like the Prowise boards for the adjustable stands and the option to build in a PC and a BluRay. Very tough as well, you can really whack the screen, hurt your knuckles and the screen doesn't blink (metaphorically). The movable mount converting the screen into an interactive table is interesting but not found anyone that can think of a use yet. More suited to Pre-Prep we think.

Had one issue with the SMART TVs but that was a driver issue as we weren't on the very latest SMART version so hadn't got the latest board drivers. I don't like where SMART have gone with their licensing, hence looking around at alternatives, but the screens are nice, just fairly generic.

 

Prowise Presenter is a nice bit of software and being Cloud based staff don't need to worry about getting the software at home or having to remote in to plan lessons. It is a seems a bit basic compared to SMART Notebook but does exactly what staff need and has some nice touches, like adding correct or incorrect answer overlays to any object making quick quizzes easy to make. The built-in class collaboration options are great and once we have devices sorted I could see them being used widely, rather than joining the class voting sets in the cupboard!

We Went with All Office Ltd for our screens - We had many demos through them and found to be the best price and service compared to others. All ways good idea to get a few competitive quotes as you will find that their is money to be saved.
