Office 2016 KMS

I'm looking to add the Office 2016 KMS to our KMS server (Server2012 R2) which currently licences our Windows 7 and Office 2010 products.

 

When I add the KMS host key via the VAT tool I get a message the following message:

 

This will uninstall the existing product key on the KMS host and install the one that you've entered.

 

Will this delete the existing keys I've got on there or just add the 2016 key?

You should be able to add it in parallel with your existing KMS key, so that it continues to host the 2010 service. I didn't see that message when adding 2016 to our host, so double-check your procedure.

Here are the steps that I've taken:

 

I've downloaded the KMS file form our licensing portal and mounted the iso on the server.

 

Ran the cscript kms_host.vbs from cmd

 

The volume activation tools wizard pops up

 

Select KMS from activation type

 

Click browse and add the name of the KMS server

 

Click install your KMS host key which I put in our key then hit commit

 

That's when I get the: This will uninstall the existing product key on the KMS host and install the one that you've entered.

I did this today and got the same message. I committed the changes as someone told me that the KMS keys are always backwards compatible. For example, if you install a Windows 10 KMS key, it will carry on licensing Windows 7. Or so I've been told but I've not read it officially.

 

I guess I'll find out next week if it doesn't work as our Office 2010 will stop licensing.

That is the case for Windows, don't think so for Office. I can't help further with your issue at present though, without my KMS host in front of me. What does the current output of your slmgr look like?

Sounds like it already has a 2016 key on.

 

Can you run slmgr /dlv all to see if one exist?

Okay, so I've been looking into this as I added a 2016 office key and got the same message. I committed the change and read this thread which got me worried. I downloaded Volume Activate Tool Management to easily see what licenses I had installed.

 

This show that the 2016 license must have replaced the 2010 license as I could only see a 2016 key. After some research, I came across a thread where someone said you need to download https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=25095

 

This enabled me to re-enter our 2010 office key and now both show in the Volume Activation Management tool:

Hi Guys thanks for all the replies. I was brave and clicked on commit. the following page showed me that it would continue to licence Windows 7 Office 2010 & Office 2016 products. Why they could change the wording on the page to this will add the product rather than this will uninstall your existing product key I don't know!
