Time-lapse photos from an IP video camera

As the title says, I'm looking for some software to take timelapse images from an IP camera to produce a video of a new build that's going to start in the summer. Lots of threads on here about using webcams (chronolapse et al) but nothing I can see using IP cameras. In an ideal world I'd like to take the feed from one of our cctv cameras that's pointing in the right direction...

Not sure about cheap software to do this, but the gold standard these days you see on most big commercial developments is the IRIS 2.6 webcam product

IP cameras should have a URL for a still image. Axis cameras are http://x.x.x.x/jpg/image.jpg

Use wget and a rename script on a scheduled task should do the trick.

I certainly wouldn't pay for anything.

We've done this for our new build.

 

We simply bought a HD Logitech webcam, securely fastened it to a wall and had it take a photo every half an hour using TinCam (Free) running off an old Gigabyte Brix. We then take the photos and just combine them together in a video editor with each still being one frame and make a video that way.

 

It seems to work fairly well and cost us about £30. The only issues we have had really have been in the winter months, with the site being south facing and the sun on the camera's lens and window it's pressed against, but I think it's hard to get away from that.

 

ConstructFilms (Construct Films) have also done one on our site from different angles - it might be worth contacting them to see if they can help.

We used a program called videovelocity (see attached) and has been running for around 4 months on my machine without a hitch (VideoVelocity - Time-Lapse video recording software) i charged the $98 to the build project!

to put the jpgs into a movie i used a program called makeavi (very simple but super easy)

We did a time laps of the demolition of our old building an new build. ( Back in 2008-2010 )

 

We had two MOBOTIX hi res CCTV cameras at opposite sides of the site.

 

We had two old PC's running ubuntu and an FTP Service.

 

Once camera uploaded to one server every 5 mins, other camera to the other server.

 

Every night the two servers copied their content to the other server so we had two copies....

 

 

Make sure you ask the permission of the building company as they may have concerns.

Been tasked with looking for solutions for a new build to time lapse
