Hi all,

Have just updated to the SIMS Spring 2016 release, which seems to have gone well.

However, whenever a SIMS user logs in after the update the "What's New" PDF file that opens up is for the "SIMS 2013 Summer 2 Release" and not the expected one (Video of newly created account: https://goo.gl/photos/hy1u9gD1X8y7Q4jV7). Although this isn't causing any problems, some staff (those that didn't just close it) have asked why we're only on the 2013 version.

Going to Help > About SIMS.net shows the correct version number.

Anyone else had this happen before, or is it just something weird that's set up on our end?

Thanks in advance

Here's a note about this issue from our service desk:

This issue has arisen a number of times in the past, and can be traced back to the failure of part of a SIMS upgrade. If you are a SOLUS3 user, it appears as though the File Server settings in SOLUS3 are configured incorrectly, leading to a failure in the upgrade of SIMSApplicationSetup.exe. Customers who have experienced this issue in the past have pointed the File Server to the network SIMS drive, rather than the local SIMS drive. After re-deploying the File Server update and running it manually, the issue is resolved.

KB-420075, KB-423182 and KB87969

Thanks @PhilNeal. I've had a look at the KB articles (wasn't sure what to search for earlier) and yes, we are a SOLUS3 user.

KB87969 and KB-420075 mention about a SIMS directory. I have 2 on our S: (SIMS) drive, both of which only contain a few files from 2013 (including the What's New file that appears). The sims.ini files point to these locations.

Running the KB-423182 file SIMSCentralServerSetup.exe from our SIMS server, with a path of S: and S:\SIMS shows progress happening, but nothing seems to get updated. The file shows a modified date of 2013, so I'm not sure if that is why it's not pulling through additional documentation. Pressing the 'Documentation' button in SIMS then shows a "Document Index File missing..." message in the bottom left.

I have had a look on SOLUS3, but can't find anything relating to "File Server settings" under any menu.

If you are using SOLUS 3 this should be noticed when the upgrade is done.

On both our last release updates through using SOLUS 3 only, the File Server part has reported as 'failed' and this is still with the Capita servicedesk waiting for a solution.

After speaking to the SIMS service desk, they let me know the following needed to be done:

  1. In SOLUS3, go to: Environment > Target > Services
  2. Select the product - SIMS file server - then press edit
  3. Server name is the name of server that hosts the mapped sims drive
  4. Installation path = true name of mapped drive (do not use mapped drive letter) e.g. D:\Admin Data\SIMS
  5. After correcting, re-deploy upgrade (Upgrades > Deployment History > Select update > Redeploy) choosing only the file server from the list of available targets

Our problem lay in step 4, as we had the mapped drive letter in place.

Not sure if there's a KB for this, but thanks to Terry O. on the service desk for sorting it for me.

I think the KB needs just a bit extra information. As far as I am aware Solus3 does not maintain the setups folder any more - therefore, possibly as you experienced, you run SIMSCentralServerSetup.exe (which is an older version) and nothing updates.

I would prefer it to say you need to "extract" the file server element of the Autumn15 upgrade (or the latest one!) from the Solus3 UI (to a folder of your choice or the setups folder) and THEN run SIMSCentralServerSetup.exe to the location that is correct e.g. s:\sims (which should also be in your workstation's sims.ini file)
