Projector in a sports hall

Recently been asked to look into trying to get a projector for our sports hall (with free ridiculously high ceiling!).

 

What set up do people have, if any?

I work for a company that installs a lot of hall projectors. What are the dimensions of the hall?

 

A few considerations you should make first:-

 

At what position do you want to input plate to go?

 

What size image are you looking for?

 

Will this be projecting directly on to a wall, or are you wanting an electric screen?

 

The ideal solution in this sort of environment is usually an overhead projector in it's own protective cage. This would be mounted directly to the ceiling or, if there are any, a girder that spans the hall. Image wise, we would normally suggest an electric screen or a goo wall (a matt painted section of the wall that is the size of the image).

Unsure about logistics of it at the minute (with regards to input plates)

 

The Person asking me said about a wall, but i think a screen would be better (the wall is a rough brick type surface and is a paleish blue colour.... it's quite a small sports hall, unsure of dimensions at the moment, but its nor particularly large (except the obvious high ceiling.) anywhere between what, 80 to 100 inches for the image?

 

This is all very rough ideas at the minute.

We have one which is wall mounted, in a cage with an electric screen on the other wall. The projector has a long throw lens to cover the distance (largish hall, two badminton courts wide) which was probably the most expensive bit!

Would it be easier to put up a large TV then some sort of a protection around it?

Hi,

 

I would definitely recommend a projection screen. What you've described doesn't sound like the ideal projection surface.

 

How bright is the hall? We typically recommend projectors from 5000 lumens+ into school halls depending on the ambient light and throw distance. However I'm moving more towards recommending 7000 lumens+ in a lot of cases. Giving consideration that if you put a 4000-5000 lumens projector in after a few years that projector might only be out putting 3000-4000 lumens (not scientific but just to make my point).

 

 

Also worth giving consideration to whether features like zoom / focus can be powered from a remote.
