AMD Laptops?

Looking at getting new laptops within a few weeks to replace some ageing staff laptops.

 

Now money getting tight we was looking at other laptops instead of the standard issue we normal use. (I3 4GB Ram)

 

Just looking at a few AMD CPU laptops and seem alright just £100 cheaper than the Intel CPU,

 

Anything i should be aware of AMD CPU's ??

PS im used to Intel CPU's and never had a AMD to use.

Yes, avoid them like the plague. There is *nothing* positive about any AMD laptop other than price. Far better off with cheaper Intel kit or even refurbs.

That's pretty strong. I have 70 or so AMD laptops, mostly Lenovo, which are great machines. I only went for AMD models as they were massively cheaper in the same bodies, and the compromise has been fine. My own work laptop is an old X100e and it's still a great machine.

 

The majority of my laptops are still Intel Core i3 powered as that was the best model available for the budget in that chassis at that time.

From what i remember, AMD computers usually come with ATI graphics. ATI graphics used to cause me headaches with drivers and ATI control panel

Like many of their desktop counterparts, AMD's strengths lies within the graphics capabilities. Processing grunt will leave them lacking; you can certainly help make up for that with SSD's and what not but bang for buck a refurb i3 will wipe the floor with them.

Morning! Thanks @MrKJLS! @newpersn I've got some excellent refurb lappies right now. How about some ivy-bridge i5 HP Elitebook 8470p with 2 years warranty and new SSD for just £260? I've got fifty or so here waiting for a nice new owner
