ranj Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 Ok if that is the case I would certainly look at this KB article which came out from VMware as it looks like based on what you have told me you might be affected with this issue. https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/viewdocument.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=2129176 I only know as we had a similar issue and once we made the change on the VM our performance problems instantly went away. You can make the change per VM or at a host level or to completely resolve it upgrade your version of vSphere 6 to Update 2. If you make the change at VM level there will be a brief outage (approx 5 seconds to the network card), if you do at host level you login to each host via the CLI and to make the change active you just vmotion the servers affected to another host and that will trigger the change. All required info is in the KB article. I have done both methods in my environment so give me a shout if you want to ask something. 1
ITGURU Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 I've always found virtual servers to be slower than physicals. All production servers that clients access i.e Profiles, SIMS, Exchange, Files are all still physical servers and always will be. I have only virtualised management servers - i.e McAfee EPO, WSUS, KMS, NPS, Paxton Access, as i've always found disk performance slow on the virtual servers. All physical servers are either 2x 4 core servers, or our SIMS server which is 2 x 6 core CPUs and 24GB ram , raid 50 data array , and we've always been told of how fast our server is in comparison to other schools and when capita have to do anything remotely on the server. if your going virtual then to me, you should have a SAN and a dedicated drive set for EACH Virtual server, otherwise your trying to run all your eggs in one basket on 1 physical SAN storage array with multiple servers using disk usage. It will only take one VM to hammer your drive I/O which will make others suffer. 1
