Stopping Google Downloads

Apart from blocking google altogether, is there a simple way of preventing students accessing all the other junk that comes with it?

 

There seem to be so many different routes to google toolbar, desktop, updater, etc. that a simple blocked URL doesn't do the trick.

Should be able to stop most of that from installing via Group Policy...

I know u can block installations, and put a stop to adding things to IE

Plus, why do they have access to the desktop? They should be able to read it only - not write or modify.

In a nutshell, no. You could use negative filtering and block google altogether. Other than that, I think you're fresh out of luck.

 

But don't you see, the solution has already been mentioned here..... Sort out your GPO's and permissions and it will stop them.

I'm not convienced blocking google will actually solve the problem as things like the google toolbar, etc are avaliable elsewhere.

I think you need to address the more fundemental issues of user's having permission to install software.

Perhaphs you should consider blocking all executable downloads.... .msi, .exe, .bat, .cmd, etc for students.

 

I guess you could do this by MIME type or by regex depending on your filtering software.
