Courses to go on?

So having a talk with my partener and i was looking at doing a evening course.

 

But where do start?

 

I was looking at a Microsoft Technology Associate course at Swindon new college. but unsure what to go on.

 

Would like to get Microsoft Trained but unsure how to get on the "ladder"

The MTA stuff is the real entry level stuff and quite simple to study I would bet, given that it was available to those who went to BETT recently for free by one of the trainers at the event, if you want their major Certs its MCSE/A path stuff to follow (3 or 5 exams I believe based on what you want to achieve)

 

Depending how you want to learn, you can do the self study routes with a lot of these products for low costs just paying for the books and exams, I am studying my CCNA that way, the two exam books were £30 each and its another £120 for an exam.

I'm currently doing Network+ course at Swindon New College. Every Tuesday evening for 16 weeks. Its proving useful in 'filling in the gaps' of my knowledge and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

I'd recommend networking courses, CCNA was probably the best course I've ever done (even if you don't use Cisco at work).

@FragglePete That's interesting, haven't seen that on their website (but I could be looking at the wrong times ). Out of interest do they offer an exam at the end of it or is it just the course material? Also, do you remember how much it was?

The course I believe is costing £625. Running from 6pm to 9pm each Tuesday evening for 16 weeks. You have the option of doing the exam at the end but it costs extra. I believe Swindon New College themselves are in the process of setting up as a testing centre as the other test centre in Swindon closed recently.

You do have to buy the course book as well, which cost £40.

The only thing I would say is the guy running the course has just accepted a job at Nationwide as security lead so not sure when they would run it again.

There was six of us that started, but we're down to four now.

So far so good. As I said, it's filling in a lot of gaps which is exactly what I expected and wanted it.

Might be why the course isn't showing up on the website. When did it start?

Started at the beginning of February I believe. I can't seem to see it on their website at the moment. This did happen last year though, I missed the start date last year (trying to get finances arranged) and it seem to disappear off the website until later on in the year when it appeared again and I manage to apply for it.

 

Be a shame if they don't run it again, but all the CompTIA stuff was done by the one guy. Follows the gtslearning's online learning and course support site stuff and we use that website for testing, etc.

For the comptia stuff have a look at professor messer (Professor Messer IT Certification Training Courses). I've studied the N+ stuff, just not taken the exams. The N+ is a good one to get started on but others say that CCNA with give you more knowledge.
