JOrdan01070 Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 I came across this bit of software while looking for a way to report on all the GPO's that have been set and best of all it is free. http://www.specopssoft.com/products/specopsgpupdate/ Some blurb Specops Gpupdate makes your life as an administrator MUCH easier providing operations such as update of Group Policy Objects (gpupdate or secedit /refreshpolicy), remote restart, wake on lan (WOL) and remote shutdown. All operations are available in the Active Directory Users and Computers interface and through Searches of Active Directory. Even entire OUs can be selected. After performing a gpupdate or secedit /refreshpolicy, remote restart, wake on lan (WOL) or remote shutdown, you will get instant feedback in a graph. If you have used it can you let me know if it is any good. cheers jordan
Gatt Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Yeah use that a fair bit here - excellent little add-on
JOrdan01070 Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 well took the plunge looks like a very usefull app looking forward to having a play.
cookie_monster Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 We use it and it's very handy. I've come accross a couple of niggles that cause it to log events in the log on the server but other than that it functions very well. One error relates to RIS so if you don't have that you wont see it. The other event SOURCE: DefaultDomain occurs when you right click a non computer object in Active Directory.
jsnetman Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 WoW thanks, didn't know this little gem existed. I spent ages scripting a group machine restart and this software does it all for you. The gpupdate is also handy when testing software and troubleshooting group policy.
cookie_monster Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Oh i've also recently noticed another error regarding WDS since installing GPupdate, the build still works but i receive an Event 522 http://207.46.196.114/windowsserver2008/en/library/f07d5ee9-1adf-4530-af7b-be1d0807ccd71033.mspx?mfr=true Anyone else using RIS/WDS see this?
boomam Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Sorry to revive an old thread, but didnt see the point in making a new one: It looks like an interesting app, but ive got a few questions before i take the plunge: - As it adds stuff to the AD MMC, are there any problems that could arise from that? - And i take it that it needs installing on each machine that i want those functions on? Thanks in advance.
