3/4g dongle failover

Cannot find this being discussed anywhere so I just wondered if anyone had implemented it.

 

Basically a 3/4g dongle for Internet failover purposes. Purely for emergencies only to keep essential internet services up in the event of outage.

 

We are in the uniqure situation where any additional line goes back to the same exchange. Single point of failure should it have an outage

 

I am looking at Smoothwall and I am led to believe that they can support this.

Although it's an on-going cost as such (which I'd assume you'll be paying for the dongle) have you considered a Satellite connection? Only like a home-style one but still probably easier and more reliable compared to dongle

With Satellite Broadband its worth noting the latency is usually very bad so if you do SIP or something that needs low latency Satellite isn't a good option

Have a look if there are any wireless broadband providers in your area, we have a few around here and they provide a good service, cheaper than satellite and would be useable if 4G isn't good in your area.
