New SIMS installation

Hi Guys

 

We are currently using Facility CMIS/EPortal hosted on our own servers. Our new Head wants to change over to SIMS as this is what he used in his last school

 

We changed from SIMS to Facility in 1996 and have been using Facility ever since.

 

Our Bursar is questioning whether we have to pay for licences again? They are charging us £10,280 for the following licences :-

 

Start Up Kit1

Assessment Suite Pro

Curriculum Management Suite

Attendance

 

We were with the LEA at the time but became an academy in 2012

 

Does any one know whether we have to pay for the licences again?

Is that literally the whole reason? I'd hope he has a lot more than that to go on, otherwise that is outrageous.

You do have to re buy licenses from Capita and also your AM payments go direct to them as well as you are an academy. Those prices sound about right.

 

If the LA has purchased their SIMS licenses recently, they may have 'portable' ones that they could give/sell you if they have any spare and are feeling very generous. AM payments would still go to Capita though.

Been there and done that, twice!!

 

Procurement processes in many many schools would leave most auditors in fits if they ever checked into them.

 

As for the costs, it's all subscription based so you are going to be paying for it every year for ever. Hope your bursar can swallow the costs.

Forgot to add, also factor in the ongoing ~50% license cost of Facility per year when you move to your new MIS if you ever want to access historical data? Or you could restore Facility into MS Access, then dump everything into Excel for easy and 'free' access.
