Aruba?

Hi all

 

I am looking to replace our current Ruckus system, I have 1 ZD1100 & 6 AP. This only covers part of the school and does not support AC. I have been really please with it, very reliable.

 

I have been looking at more Ruckus kit, but because I need over 25 AP's we cannot use unleashed. This means having another ZD, licenses etc

 

Aruba has been suggested, what are your thoughts, what the UI like to use, is coverage good?

Aruba is excellent for coverage, management and 802.11ac support.

 

I do find the interface difficult to use at times though.

 

But once its setup, its rock solid and very fast. We have a 3400 controller here with 50 of the 220 AP's.

 

If you are buying the system new, i'd look at the 802.11ac phase 2 transmitters.

aruba here also and i can't fault it - other than the interface can be a pain like above, though I've went with the Instants route - the upside being if you ever get to the point of needing a controller they can be converted to run from the cloud like a meraki solution, or from a hardware controller as required.

We have 7 sites, 5 on Ruckus and 2 on Aruba. I prefer the Ruckus, interface is better and the performance on the Ruckus feels better.

Ruckus do have a cloud solution for larger deployments beyond unleashed though, maybe take a look at that? I'm told it lacks one or two features the controller offers at the moment, but might still be worth a look.

The Aruba IAP is worth considering. Your numbers suggest that you might be a Primary in which case Fortinet (previously Meru) still have their primary bundles which offer outstanding value.

Hi @grinch, how is this project coming along?

 

As mentioned above there is an alternative option with your deployment.

 

Net-Ctrl offers our own Ruckus cloud managed service using the Ruckus vSCG. You buy your APs and a vSCG license, plus support like normal. You can then join our vSCG controller where you can still manage your deployment like normal.

 

You do miss out on a few features with not having your own ZD, some include Application Awareness, DPSK and Role Based Access Control.
