Tomorrow is the big day :)

After a few months or work tomorrow we begin the deployment of our new network infrastructure

 

5400R zl2 at the core and 2530s (all updated, presaged/configured by the MSP who is helping us with the deployment) of various port and PoE densities at the edge replacing an ancient Cisco and Juniper mashup.

 

To make matters even more interesting we are going from a flat network to a very nicely VLANed one along with 802.1x Auth on every port (bar uplinks) using Certs, Username/Password and MC bypass for the devices out there that don't play with either.

 

Not the first time with this kind of show but will be fun all the same!

ekkk! - I've had a few issues with the 2530s when deploying these! make sure they have the latest firmware\software on

Ooh yes we sure are Even have a theory on doing automated firmware updates (without IMC).

Oh quite so to make things even more interesting we've got to keep the old 'Public range' network in use for a while at least until we migrate everything over - we'll end up with static routes on our servers for a fair old while

 

Not working for a school these days but still in the world of Education.

What sort of problems did you come across?

 

I love our 2530 switches but have had a couple of quirks with PoE refusing to work until they're rebooted, maybe a firmware update fixed it.

Day 1 done and back home

 

Only 3 technical issues remain all relating to wireless access although we have a work arounds ready if we need.

Sounds good, 802.1x is fun! Does this mean youll have Juniper kit going spare

Plenty of Juniper kit going spare All little 12 port switches that we used for PoE to our WAPs though...

 

Anywhos! Large bulk of the work completed by end of day Thursday including the resolution of our last real issue with the setup Still a bit of a niggle with some devices not even authenticating with MAC Address bypass but for now we have work-arounds in place for them. Will probably end up spending most of next week sorting those out.

 

Quick piccy of the server room included - the Cisco at the top is our last remaining link to a few other Cisco switches that are coming out on Wednesday.
