JimStokes Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 I am getting an error message when I try and join a pc to the domain using Ghost: Error: failed to join domain: logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. I have checked that the ghost console account is in active directory, but this keeps happening. Anyone got any ideas?? Thanks Jim
ricki Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 Have you put the domainname in the user name. Like DOMAINNAME/user Richard
mattx Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 I take it you mean the mini setup XP goes through ? I would check the username and password credentials and also what name are you using for the domain - netbios or the full DNS name ? Have you tried the admin username and password or are you using a normal username ?
jack0w Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 Another thought - does the account you've setup as your ghost service account have the necessary rights to create a computer object in the OU you are specifying? If not you will need to delegate control for the service account to the OU you want the accounts to be created in. This can be done by right clicking the OU in Active Directory and selecting Delegate Control - just follow the wizard through! Hope this makes sense!! Jack
DMcCoy Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 Or its simply reached the 10 machine creation limit on AD, you can test by recreating or using a new ghost user account.

I can manually join a computer to the domain using this account.
boomam Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 I have a similar problem here: All the settings in sysprep are correct, but it errors on the joining the domain bit. If i then manually put in the same info, still in mini-setup, it works fine again? Very odd problem, but not one im overly concerned about tbh. Stops the kids naming the computers while im out of the room.
jack0w Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 The only other thing that springs to mind is as ricki mentioned - try using the domain name with the account name. Jack
Face-Man Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Which version of Ghost is it ? I had a similar problem with V. 8 but it has been fine since I upgraded to 11. Have you at which point the problem occurs.. from memory mine was when creating the computer account pre imaging . I did a work around by checking the log and creating them in AD manually before the image was pushed out.
