Kyocera P2135dn 7990 Error

One of our Kyocera P2135dn printer has come up with "Error.Power Off. 7990" displayed it the screen. I have turned the printer off like it says to but then when i turn it back on it still comes up with the same error message. Kyocera support haven't responded to me yet. I was wondering if anyone else has seen this problem before and if so what they did to fix the problem. I think the printer is out of warranty now.

7990 indicates that the waste toner is full. On this model it is in the drum unit itself, ideally you should replace the drum unit (photoconductor unit). However I have successfully emptied these in the past though it does get a bit messy so be prepared with an empty bin liner and cloths to wipe everything clean before attempting. Its not too difficult or fiddly you just need a small flat bladed screwdriver to lever off the plastic covers at each end of the drum unit.

The Manual us useless Its says for that error message to contact support. I will have a look at it and see if i can empty it. Thanks for the tip.

How many pages has your printer done. If it's close to 100,000 then your drum might need to be replaced as that is the waste toner holder... but normally it actually says that it needs replacing instead of the error code (which sometimes is just the total page count on other Kyocera models)

Well theres a coincidence LOL. Just had a Kyocera Ecosys FS-1370 (the older model of the P1235) with the 7990 error, emptied the drum unit of waste toner and now back up and running. This printers only done 43,000 pages, the drum life on them is 50,000 iirc. Usually when it reaches the drum life the printer keeps flashing an orange light and asks for a MK (maint kit) to be fitted, although if you can ignore the flashing it will carry on printing for much longer (I know cos we've got one that started flashing twelve months ago but is still printing OK otherwise!!!). Its tucked away in a little office but we are continuing to use it until it finally gives up the ghost as we do not intend to replace it when it finally dies :-) Edited March 3, 2016 by Techykev
