Is Windows 10 killing hard drives?

Were there important firmware updates missing on those SSDs? Might also check for a UEFI update for the PCs they are installed in as well. Likely you just got a bad batch though.

I had an issue on a Win8 laptop a while ago where the HDD activity was maxed out at 100% permanently.

The laptop didn't have Spotify installed did it?

For almost five months—possibly longer—the Spotify music streaming app has been assaulting users' storage devices with enough data to potentially take years off their expected lifespans. Reports of tens or in some cases hundreds of gigabytes being written in an hour aren't uncommon, and occasionally the recorded amounts are measured in terabytes. The overload happens even when Spotify is idle and isn't storing any songs locally.

 

My home PC was affected by this bug.

We have hundreds of Kingston SSDs (as well as a large number of Samsung) and they've been extremely reliable, just coming up to the four year mark. Least reliable have been Crucial for us, but that was an isolated batch of M4s and not many then. Only Intels we have are four consumer drives in RAID 0 in a server, I needed outright speed and their reliability was a major factor too.
