I'm hoping the licencing experts can help...

I'm looking to buy 30 new laptops and have had a quote from Very PC for Windows 10 licences.

For Windows 10 Pro OEM it's £88.

The school has around 300 kids and 25 FTEs.

Is there a cheaper way to licence Windows on these new devices?

I know a lot of the EES schemes only allow you to upgrade the OS and not install from scratch.

I love the Very PC laptops, but other OEMs pay peanuts for Windows and thus bring the overall price down.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

Do you have EES?

If so, get them to quote for the most basic version of Windows that they can supply, Windows 7 Home Basic or whatever. You'll then be able to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro/Enterprise/Education using your EES license.

EES or OVS-ES won't help if you don't have existing licenses for these machines. The approximate per year cost for you would be around £900 for EES, but you could in theory apply the cheapest OEM Windows license available (XP still qualifies).

In that case, go to your favourite Microsoft license supplier (Ramesys, Phoenix, Pugh, whoever) and find out how much an upgrade license is. The cost of that plus a basic Windows OEM license may still be less than an OEM Pro license.

Also, as nice as the guys at VeryPC are, the hardware that they sell isn't unique. They rebadge Clevo laptops. You may find that the likes of Stone or Novatech can sell you the same hardware for less.
