Remote management of services

Anyone know what permissions are required in order to remotely connect to services for start/stop/restart? I've setup permissions on the specific services for a security group, and i've tried using the winrm group permissions.

 

What we want to be able to do is open services.msc > connect to another computer, but without being either an admin of that local machine or a domain admin it doesn't work.

Just to be transparent I work for NetSupport, you should definitely look at NetSupport School as this provides exactly what you are looking for...

 

The NetSupport Student component that runs on the Windows device runs in the system context and therefore has the required privileges to stop and start services, the NetSupport Technicians Console which connects to the Student component will allow you to remotely stop/start/restart services (See Screenshot) as well as providing many other useful tools such as a remote registry editor, remote command prompt, HW/SW Inventory, remove control etc. It also allows you to kill process and stop running applications (like a remote Task Manager).

I'll give that a test tomorrow. For simplicity purposes i was hoping people could still use the UI, but as it's only 3 services they'd need to know the names of, i guess sc might do the job.

 

We actually have impero, but the impero service is the one that sometimes needs restarting (or starting if it's stopped) otherwise we would just use that.

NetSupport would allow you to restart services without the user being aware/affected as it does not require you to takeover their desktop/UI -although if you had NetSupport you would not need Impero so would not need to restart the service (not sure where I am going with that!)
