DNS Issues

Morning,

 

I have got a issue with a number of laptops where they are failing updated their group policies due to a lack of connectivity to my 2 DCs.

From some desktops I am able to ping the 2 dcs through both IP address and DNS name, however on the laptops I am only able to ping via the IP address.

 

I've tried flushing DNS records with a ipconfig /flushdns and can't see anything in the event viewer on either of the DCs or the laptops.

 

Any help would be much appreciated!

My first thought is you try a static ip or dhcp (whichever is the one that isn't being used)

 

If you can ping the fqdn - then I would check that the dns primary suffix box is either empty or only has your domain in it (ipsettings>dns)

Have you checked that the clients are correctly registered in DNS in case it needs both ends working (ipconfig /registerdns)?
