chris_uk Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Hi all, Does anybody have any suggestions for home internet filtering? Needs to be OSX and IOS ideally. We are on Virgin and it would seem that the ChildSafe only does the whole connection and not just per device. Thanks
chris_uk Posted February 15, 2016 Author Posted February 15, 2016 Sophos Home perhaps? Is it technophobe wife compatible?
FN-GM Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 How about OpenDNS? Configure your router to point to the DNS servers and all devices will be filtered. Filtering settings are managed on an online portal.

Mr_Jiminy Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 A few screen grabs to let you make your mind up.

chris_uk Posted February 15, 2016 Author Posted February 15, 2016 (edited) A few screen grabs to let you make your mind up. Thanks for that. I've downloaded it and got it installed on a laptop now. It's good that it will protect even away from the home. Shame they don't appear to have an iOS client, unless I'm missing out on it? Mr_Jiminy Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Ah ignore me, just spotted it's required for iOS. Sophos UTM in that case.
markwilfan Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Just out of interest. Anybody running sophos utm on anything other than a fat pc. Would love to get it going for when the spawn is Internet ready and was looking for a low powered dual nic box. Have you got this set up with a separate wap?

Would love to get it going for when the spawn is Internet ready and was looking for a low powered dual nic box. Have you got this set up with a separate wap? I now have the Sophos UTM running on a virtual box virtual machine on a virgin internet connection at home. Disabled DHCP on the virgin box and the Sophos UTM is now doing all DHCP. It's working really well in the 12 hours I've had it set up. Took all of 15 minutes to configure and setup. 5 minutes of that was down to having to reinstall the OS due to me being an idiot and forgetting what I set as the Admin password.
Dodgex1 Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 (edited) I'm running Sophos UTM. Used an "In Car" Mini PC case, fanless power supply and converter, SSD, Fanless MB mini-itx with dual GB NIC, a 3rd NIC on a flexi cable and 6 GB RAM. No moving parts, no noise. As above supports DHCP and I have a WAP (Unify AC, but I have used a TP-Link one too) 2 ports mapped to be "internal" and one as "wan" so I have the WAP on one internal and one on a switch for wired kit. Gaz Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Sophos UTM or the new XG if you are feeling keen.
