One of ICT Co-ord's has come back from BETT with Clicker 5.

 

It has an option to do a network install and create an MSI for workstation deployment.

 

However, suprise suprise, its sitting here just giving saying its going to take 5 mins to complete (that was 10 minutes ago BTW)

 

Anyone tried this version out yet?

Yep used Clicker5. Server install is fairly easy. Client side I've never needed to do many machines so I've installed manually.

 

Sometimes it trips up if you have MS Office installed. It will trigger installation of extra MS Office components which will require the Office CD. Unless of course you did a network install of Office?

Clicker 5 has worked brilliantly for me (I'm used to Clicker 4 which was a bit of a nightmare MSI-wise). It's worth downloading the latest updates once the server install is done. This will create a new Workstation MSI.

 

The only problem I've hit IIRC is that the client MSI did not work if the path to the server install had a space in it e.g. '\\server\apps\clicker 5' but was fine with '\\server\apps\clicker5'. This may actually be a LFN issue. MSI has problems with paths to network locations which usually have to be created in 8.3 format which would mean 'clicker 5' would appear as 'clicke~1'.

 

The tech people at Crick are quite helpful also.

Well - I came back from coffee and it said it had done it.

 

It then said it needed .NET 1.1 installing on workstations and said I'd have to uninstall >NET 1.0 if already loaded.

 

So apart from this and the problem if Office is loaded I'll need the CD and spaces in the names and 8.3 msi's and the fact that I can't find the MSI it says it created ...

If you have WSUS, you can push out .NET 1.1 via that.

It's funny how things are different isn't it. I RIS build my PCs and push .NET1.1, Office and Clicker 5 as MSI files and have never had a problem (apart from the 8.3 issue, which is an MSI issue really, not Clicker). He ho.

Have it working great here .. but made mistake of going to dot net 2.0 looks fine but no grids appear.. anyway works fine with 1.1

1.1 and 2.0 are suposed to be able to co exist with each other happily. At least thats what is says on the paint dot net site .
