Disease Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Hi all, I have been asked to look for some software to sort new intakes into their tutor groups based on determinable criteria, what if any do you use in your school and is it easy to use:) I am not doing the sorting but the end user has requested it is as simple as possible Many Thanks
Fazza Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 If you're talking about users and groups in Active Directory Users and Computers then search EduGeek for Salamander 1
howartp Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Student Sorting Kit: Student Sorting Kit Used it alongside our normal process two years ago, then used it on its own last year. It is only an Excel Spreadsheet, but don't be fooled by that - it is very good. Depending how picky you are, it will either do the whole lot for you, or you can get it to say 90% then start moving people around yourself. Based on intake school, KS results, language preference, gender, friends, foes and anything else you can quantify. Peter 1
Disease Posted February 10, 2016 Author Posted February 10, 2016 @FazzaThanks but the sort of thing I am looking for is as @howartp suggested
Tech13 Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 I'd like to resurrect this thread - as the kit is now getting a little dated and we are concerned that security updates to Windows & Office may stop it working soon. Can anyone recommend any new versions / alternatives?!
vwilcox Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 @Tech13 Have you had any luck with this? I can't even open the Limacon Student Sorting Kit link. I was hoping to find something similar

Have you had any luck with editing the assign students to classes? We need 12 groups this year, but only 11 will be allowed. Updating the cell in Factors (B1) does not change anything sadly.

Updating the cell in Factors (B1) does not change anything sadly. Looks like it should just be the case of updating B1 (between 2-56 as a max number) and then re-building/re-running the assign students to classes and using the higher number within that (12 in your case), then updating restrictions to each class etc Not got a copy to hand to test it but that's what the instructions seem to suggest (I assume this was licensed originally so it's not shareable to test?) Steve Well that was simple! Thank you for that. Problem of coming in late to something and not knowing anything about it!
YK78 Posted July 1 Posted July 1 Hi we still use this in school but instead of Excel it's now a Google Sheet, seems to work well but I was hoping for a copy of the original instructions. Does anyone have a copy they could share please? Many thanks
howartp Posted July 1 Posted July 1 This is the PDF that came with the kit when we bought it. You say you've got a Google version of it - where did you get it from / can you share a link? Instruction Booklet 2010.pdf 1
YK78 Posted July 1 Posted July 1 (edited) I think its the original excel but saved in a Google Drive and accessed as a Sheet. I'm hoping to connect a Google form to the Sheet which is sent to schools to complete. Their answers should automatically feed the Limacon Sheet and automatically balance and sort the tutor groups for us! Edited July 1 by YK78
YK78 Posted July 1 Posted July 1 OK, so my colleague who was using the Google Sheet came into bother... obviously the VBA and macros won't work in Sheets. So she opened up the Excel file version with Macros enabled and it worked.
