timbo343 Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 (edited) LHmmm, its fairly busy. Whats it like downstairs? I guess this this a screenshot of when your on the top floor? If you keep your signal strength higher than the rest of the others you should be ok on the other channels. Channel 14 doesnt exist on home routers, well in 13 years ive never seen it - that will be because 14 is for the japanise market http://kernelmag.dailydot.com/features/report/8051/the-mystery-of-wifi-channel-14/ - never knew that ??. Some devices wont let you use channel 13, just be carefull. Edited February 8, 2016 by timbo343
timbo343 Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 Neg 70 isn't brilliant... How far away is the AP and/or what sort of obstructions are between you and it? (Walls, floors?) I have a rule that that if signal db drops less than -70db then another AP is needed .
kearton Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 I have a rule that that if signal db drops less than -70db then another AP is needed . I'm similar, except I work to a max of Neg 65 dbm 1
abillybob Posted February 19, 2016 Author Posted February 19, 2016 So as an update I finally got my extra AP and installed it, it's all working fine but still having the same problems and symptoms. It's really weird I have found that the 5Ghz is a lot more stable and better but the 2.4ghz is horrendous, when I try to connect my mums computer to the 2.4Ghz it will connect but won't ping anything internally or externally same goes for my girlfriends phone, or they will start working temporarily but 90% of the time the ping can be up to 140ms and it will drop packets! Grrrrr any other suggestions?

kearton Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 (edited) SKY3D816's signal is on the same channel and stronger (so will be causing more interference) than the plethora on channel 6. What channel does the app recommend you use? Edited February 19, 2016 by kearton 1
timbo343 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 i was going to say stick it on ch6 too or a channel around ch6 1
abillybob Posted February 20, 2016 Author Posted February 20, 2016 Problem is the Sky was on channel 6 last time I checked hence why I changed them to Channel 1 and 13. Though for some reason it's changed again, I'm wondering whether it's on auto and keeps trying to find the better channel which my wifi is on?
timbo343 Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Possibly, set it to manual. Looking at the graph 6 is the best one. Can you show the screen with the stars on?
timbo343 Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 @abillybob i saw this on twitter and thought of you How to get super-fast Wi-Fi in every room | TechRadar
abillybob Posted February 21, 2016 Author Posted February 21, 2016 @abillybob i saw this on twitter and thought of you How to get super-fast Wi-Fi in every room | TechRadar Thank you I think I found out what the problem was this time *touches wood* seemed that I was using a Cat5 cable meaning the second roster was only getting 100mbps speed from the primary router. I have changed it for a Cat5e and all seems to be working as it should. Fingers are firmly crossed!!!
