Any school using Interwrite Pads (Bluetooth)

Hi all,

 

anyone use Interwrite pads? Out current Bluetooth Dongle (TDK) we got with the Pad has broken and I think they have stopped producing them.

 

Does anyone know a way of getting a normal standard bluetooth dongle working with them?

 

any help would be great..

I guess it *should* be possible to get it working with any bluetooth dongle however making it is another matter all together....

we have them

 

if i remember you had to install the software for the dongle (bluetooth) and the interwrite software was seperate so aslong has you install the software for the new dongle i think that would work

i know they are rubbish but the head here loves them (mind you he is not a full one.roll on his retirement JUNE)

We had one, the slot in which you put the pen is a bit dodgy on ours and now it does not charge correctly. I have removed the device now as not a single teacher used it.

We also got 2 of the Activ Pads - again, not a single teacher used them !!

They are sitting in our cupboard at the moment - I'll make a note of putting them all out again but I think I am wasting my time !!

Any B/T adapter will work, or at least it does for our Wacom tablets. All the adapter is doing is giving the PC a means of communicating with a B/T device - the pairing which takes place is between the device and the computer, not the device and the adapter.

Contrary to what some of you are saying, I think that these are brilliant! We also use Interwrite whiteboards so the software is common between the two - our teachers aren't the biggest users of IWBs and I've found that these are a far more cost effective. The newer version of the software is all shiny too (plus it is available for Windows, Mac and Linux).

 

Anyway... I'm fairly sure that I have used an InterWrite SchoolPad with a MacBook's in built bluetooth. GTCO Calcomp have also changed the dongle that you get with the pads now.

Hello,

My name is Dustin Cleary and I am a Senior Technical Support Specialist from Interwrite Learning. One of our dealers forwarded this forum to me because it seemed that you may need some help with getting your Bluetooth to work for the Interwrite Pad.

 

We offically support three different types of Bluetooth stacks. (WIDCOM, Microsoft, Toshiba). As long as the Bluetooth adapter you choose uses one of these stacks then it should work for your device. Now there have been some issues as of late with conflicting Bluetooth drivers. It seems that when loading the TDK or Ezurio software on a system that is using the Microsoft Stack can cause some issues. I can help to resolve those issues. Since we support the Microsoft stack now the Ezurio/TDK Bluetooth drivers are no longer required on XP systems with service pack 2 and Vista systems.

If you are using a Mac or a Linux system then you should not need to add any Bluetooth drivers.

 

If you are using a Windows XP or Vista OS and have already installed the TDK or Ezurio software then you will want to update to the latest version of Interwrite Workspace (version 7.03)

 

If you have updated to the latest version of Workspace and you still are not able to get your Bluetooth working here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try.

 

 

This solution outlines the steps you need to take to manually switch from the

Microsoft stack back to the Bluetooth stack.

 

1 Open the Windows Control and select the Performance and Maintenance category. You can access the Windows Device Manager from either Administrative Tools or System. Device Manager lists the applicable hardware on your system.

 

2 Expand the Bluetooth Radios listing and right-click on the TDK Bluetooth USB Adapter option.

 

 

3 From the popup menu, select the Update Driver option.

 

4 When the Hardware Update Wizard displays, select the No, not this time radio button option.

 

5 Click on the Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) radio button and click on the Next button.

 

 

6 Select the Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install radio button and click on the Next button.

 

7 Click on the Have Disk... button.

 

8 In the text box, type, or browse to, C:\Program Files\Ezurio\Bluetooth Software\bin. (This path assumes the Bluetooth software was installed in the Program Files folder.)

 

9 In the bin directory, open the file named btwusb.

 

10 Click on the OK button to return to the Hardware Update Wizard.

11 In the Model list window, select TDK Bluetooth USB Adaptor and click on the Next button.

You may see one or more hardware installation warnings. Click on the

Continue Anyway button whenever the warning is displayed.

 

12 When the driver update is completed, click on the Finish button.

The switch from the Microsoft Bluetooth stack back to the EZURiO/TDK Bluetooth stack has been completed and you can now connect to your Bluetooth Devices.

I agree they are VERY painful to support and all 3 of our bluetooth usb's died I think really stinks for the amount they cost. But with that said, the teachers love the idea so we are switching to the Mimio Pad. I am hoping they are much more reliable and lasting.

Thanks to the interwrite rep for the info on bluetooth. I lost my bluetooth adapter recently, and that's the only bad part about the pad. I love the interwrite pad! I do all my presentations in powerpoint, writing only the chemistry or math problems in; no solutions. Students print the powerpoint notes and bring them to class. Then, the students and I solve the problems together using the pad. I wouldn't want to teach without it. It does disconnect sometimes, but it's not frequent enough to be a real issue- I just reconnect and away we go!
