Just does it work ok? :)

I currently have all users data in d:\Userdata\Staff Directories, i am going to move the it to d:\data which is my Google Drive folder and just re-share with the same name. I'm thinking once the data has synced I will need to manually share each users homedir within Google Drive. I'm thinking it shouldn't affect anything on site in terms of folder redirection breaking etc.

I had to use a 3rd party app to sync because gdrive falls over when you hit things like DFS folders and system files.

Do you mind me asking which app you used?

Its very slow to sync the first time as its throttled to 2 simultaneous uploads but it allows exclusion of files, directories and wildcards and seems to not fall over with DFS etc.

Seems like a small dev team behind it but do support it well. $20 for a single licence. Currently in the 14 day trial and will probably buy it after.

Morning Everyone!

So next question........is there a nice way to set directory permissions in Google Apps? For instance I'm uploading all user directories from the server to GApps but would rather not have to set permissions manually on everyone's home directories.

Thanks :)

Very interested in this thread as we are in the process of doing the same, I looked at Syncdocs but I'm just not convinced. Ideally I want to sync the shared areas like the original poster while keeping a local copy, with a view to eventually getting rid of the local copy. Backupify is the backup solution I've been looking at rather than relying on the 30 day backup from Google.

So are you planning to use one licence and install it on a server? To back up all of your users' Google Drives?

Not with the way our drives and shares are structured.

I was originally pulling all home directories to a single unlimited space Google account and sharing the individual folders to each user.

However I will have to buy additional licences as our shared areas are structured differently.

I.E. BackupUser1 = home drives

BackupUser2 = Shared areas

If you include any other folders outside of the original selected drive folder these are uploaded, then the original files are deleted and then re-downloaded to your drive folder. So a heads up there, dont expect it to sync from other locations like I did :p

This is what I am trying to do, all my Shared Directories, User Docs etc are in the d:\data folder which is my sync folder. I'm then Sharing the staff home directories with the relevant staff so it will appear in their shared with me area.

Apologies about the thread resurrection but it seems appropriate.

Anyone got any recommendations on a cloudberry alternative to do the inital sync of staff user areas to a google drive account ?
