DHCP server wireless full

Hi guys

 

we have a subnet range of 10.235.152.1 - 10.235.159.254

 

Its split up in multiple vlans for use within network. One issue we are having is the wireless lan is now full ( 10.235.158.0)

 

We have few scopes here and there that are not in use so wondered if i can use those scopes to use in wifi.

 

How can i add the scope to the wifi network?

 

Do i rename the scope to wifi and configure the meru access controller to look for 2nd ip ranges. Or do i need to configure my switches?

 

any pointers on above will be good

What's your server lease time set to?

 

7/8 days MS' default. Can you not try reducing it to 1 say day? Ok loads more requests but even 12 hours if you've got lots of people backwards and forward at different times of the day.

Could do with knowing what other vlans you have. expand your vlan scope from a /21 to a /20 which will give you 10.235.144.0 - 10.235.159.255 if you have the space without overlapping. This shouldn't need any switch Config. Alternative if that range overlaps another vlan create a new vlan with a new /20. This would give you 4000 odd addresses. This would require to switch Config though

I would suspect he is constrained within what his ISP/GFL has configured for routing unless he is running his own firewall/UTM/NAT. increasing the subnet hosts may not work and you want to be reducing the netmask to reduce the size and increase the number of broadcast domains.

see attached my vlans config as you can see wifi has 255 addresses. I have printers on 60 which is also running low.

 

Ideally i wanted to avoid to much switch config.

 

I have 2 vlans i can use the pan vlan or Lan proj which are not being used at all. is there a quick process i can do to use those vlans for the wifi? maybe by creating a second SSID if i have to but would rather avoid if i can but whatever i got to do i do i guess.

 

Then probably over summer plan is to redo the scopes from scratch to give enough ip addresses to all scopes.

wow i can see your dilemma.

Ideally i would try and get to your next holiday and redesign those vlans maybe consolidate a few together or at least work out how many of those addresses in each vlan you are utilizing.

Management,

VOIP

Server

CCTV

Staff computers

Student computers

Printers and projectors

Wifi Management

Wifi Clients (domain laptops and tablets etc)

Wifi BYOD (guests)

CAshless canteen
