We have a computer that keeps getting stuck on “starting windows” screen and sometimes the blue HP screen, the computer is currently windows 8.1, it was XP, then windows 7. A few weeks after windows 7 was put on this problem occurred.

So far I have tried: re-imaging windows 7, replacing the hard drive, replacing the ram, replacing the CMOS battery, re-imaging windows 8.1, doing start-up repair many times.

The computer still sticks on both windows 7 and windows 8.1 starting windows screen.

What else could be tried?

Thanks, Megan

Have you tried changing the sata input to IDE as I believe that can cause issues sometimes on HP machines but other than that possibly a bios update is required.

what method of deployment between 7 and 8.1.

what do you use to deploy your image?

If you use WDS

Are you using the same boot image that you used on XP with Windows 7 and windows 8.1? you will need to create a new boot image for each OS (not to be confused with the install image)

Image deployment could be a driver issue. Try importing Windows 7 disc into deployment server, create a windows 7 boot image and a win 7 install image the link your answer file and reimage your client. do you experience the same problem?
