colingally Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Working in an International School in the I.T. department here in Germany. I look after hardware/resources in the ES part of our school. I also do the Yearbook/website/intranet and Moodle. And I also teach 6th Grade. Lot of things going on! I think the International School circuit is a really well hidden secret and fantastic once you get into it. Excellent if you wanna leave your country and start working around the world. Which I did! I will because of my experience here be starting work in Hong Kong as ES I.T. Co-ordinator/teacher in a private school come next August. Any questions about getting into the International School scene, fire away.

The best and not the easiest way is to look at the actual school websites, there is a nominal list here: http://members.cois.org/directory/isd_accred.aspx It's impossible to sign up with any IS teaching websites like http://www.search-associates.com as they require teaching certs. I was fortunate my fiance wanted to move to and is a certified teacher so I got to go with her to a Search Job Fair in Bangkok and we nabbed these jobs. It's not that there isn't jobs for people in our line of work in the IS circle it's just not that easy to get into the hunt for them as IS directors tend not to post tech jobs on most job sites. they will though post i.t.director/integrationalists/coordinaator jobs there not knowing that most people qualified for those aren't allowed to join anyway! Agh! As I said it helps to have a qualified teacher as a spouse! The role of I.T. is pretty weird in International Schools. Most Asian countries hire local hands but most schools want experienced english native speaking people for i.t. manager/co-ordinator/integrationalists. As I've said though it's a case of getting your foot in the door, looking at the school's own websites and checking back once in a while to see if there are job openings. I spent quite some time on the cois website just checking the schools and imagining would it would be like to live in Hawaii or someplace! Any more q's feel free.
