bald_pig Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Are you sure it's /24? you can go up to /8, i can't see anyone needing that many subnets, you just need to re-subnet.
Joanne Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 They didn't charge me. They had to check that the extension of the range was available - it wasn't so I was on 43 and now I'm on 42 and 43. They had to change the default gateway, which means I had to change it on anything with a manual address - CCTV, printers, servers. Then you just change the DHCP range, delete the old and create the new. Make sure you write down all of your reservations and stuff. Issues I have had - they didn't save the router config, so when it rebooted it reverted to the 43 instead of 42, so nothing worked!

Michael Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 I agree - the easiest thing is to change your subnet, but if you're part of a bigger intranet, you need to talk to your provider.

sdj Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 We have had varying success on this. BTLS do not charge for the procedure and for most the change is easy without a visit from them. However if they cannot extend the range and have to release a new IP range, that is where we have found that there are issues. We were to change over one of our schools over Christmas and they could not assure us that the school would be up and working on the 4th. As we are a 3rd party support, we couldn't risk one of our schools being down on the first day back. We are now awaiting for another date.
twin--turbo Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 I never botherd much about what the CLEO told us to use for our internal network. It was our internal network and we perscribed our Subnets and Vlans. All traffic in and out went through a NAT proxy/firewall server or the SMTP server. There were ( hopefully are no longer ) massive security implications from using the GFL lan addresses and being able to get to other schools networks.
ChrisH Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 (edited) I know this is a bit old but for the sake of a complete answer..... They changed the ACLs a long time ago so you need to specifically ask to get access to another schools range. As has already been stated if the adjoining set of IP addresses are available you can then just change the subnet mask to something like 255.255.254.0 or 255.255.252.0 (depending on how many IP addresses they give you), if not then you will get a completely different range. I ran on other internal ranges for many years until they introduced Light Speed then we found the client needs to have your assigned WAN IPs in order for the reporting to work properly. As we have VLANs and a firewall this was an issue. The solution we came up was they gave us a new larger IP range and they changed the route for this big range to go to our "external" interface on our firewall. I could then split this large range up internally and our core switch would route. I know this second bit is more complicated than Si needs but I include this for completeness on the subject .
