AVG Business with SCCM

I've just moved to a new school and one of my first issues is the update of the antivirus. The school uses AVG business edition, and in the past have rolled this out using SCCM. I've tried replicating the setup of the last AVG iteration however I can't seem to get the installer to run properly.

 

Has anyone else got a similar setup, and if so how do you manage to package AVG for install>

 

For the record I am calling the setup.exe using the /ConfigFilePath switch to do a silent install and put in the remote server details - this works fine when run from the command line on my machine, however I simply get an exit code when I run it via the SCCM advertisemnt

I would generally ask why on earth use AVG Business when via SCCM they have the ability to use a fully managed system center endpoint protection, which IMO is superior?

I've come in and taken over an existing system, and am currently firefighting and finding my way around it. Providing I get SLT approval, I'll be looking at changing the AV solution as soon as this license expires, however in the meanwhile I need to get this pushed out and working as soon as possible whilst I negotiate.

Remember MS have been very clear they are not in the AV business but they give something a its better than northing so wouldn't be suggesting to drop something you have already that works or suggest the MS Solution is superior as it is far from it. We were keen to go to the MS AV as its part of our licensing etc but back tracked after they said they were not focusing on it and since then its slipped down the charts so as much as I don't rate AVG either its still better than the MS Solutions.

Whilst that is indeed true, the underlying engine in SCEP is still that of Security Essentials and the provided updates are more than sufficient for a network that's not half-hearted security wise. The suggestion was merely as it would be a cinch to push that out instead rather than trying to get AVG to push via SCCM; in fact if you struggle with AVG, a good interim solution until you can get AVG pushed out would be to disable it via registry (GPO) would be pushing out SCEP. As much as I love SCCM I don't think I'd like to try pushing out third party security products as I imagine they're an utter pain compared to standard software as you're finding out!

 

And for reference, SCEP has been protecting us since 2012 with 0 outbreaks and quite a few serious infections stopped at the source - infections that I know have walked straight past Symantec enterprise in another school.
