russdev Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 The Great EduGeek T-Shirt competition of 2006 (Prizes kindly donated by NETGEAR) From the Dawn of Time, the human race has searched to create an identity for itself. Wars have been fought, marriages have broken down, tears have been shed ... And then came the Age of Enlightenment. A rare breed (ggeks) stood above the others and said, "No more! I am better than this, I can create my own identity", and promptly copied what everyone else was doing. To stave off the impending sheepdom of geeks out there a generation of T-shirt were born ... distributing clue to users ... there is no place like 127.0.0.1 ... the list goes on. And now, it is your turn to put a marker in time. Edugeek wants you! The Staff of EduGeek hereby announce the Great EduGeek T-Shirt Competition of 2006. We have very kindly had a donation of Prizes from NETGEAR, more details of which are below. And now for the rules. The t-shirt design must be original and must not infringe on any copyrighted materials. The t-shirt designs will be publish on the website and comments can be made, but Dos_Box's decision is final. The rights to the design go to EduGeek, but purely so that any monies raised can be used so that we can run future events that cannot be covered by our work with groups like SSAT. T-shirst and cups will be made and sold via a Cafe Press site. EduGeek Staff, their relatives, their pets and their futureselves may not enter. You can enter as many times as you wish. Entries must be posted in jpeg or png format and during the initail judging be no more than 400x400. You will be asked for a higher quality image at a later date. All entries should be made through the "competition" thread, and EduGeek staff will the stick them into the gallery when appropriate. Any queries about the competition, or the validity of some of the entries should be PMed to RussDev, GrumbleDook or dos_box. And finally ... DB'S WORD IS FINAL!!!!!! Just thought I'd mention it ... The first prize that NETGEAR have donated is a NETGEAR SC101. More details about the product can be found at http://www.netgear.com/ products/details/SC101.php We then have 4 "nearly, but not quite" prizes of the nice little WiFi Trekkers that NETGEAR were giving away at BETT. GrumbleDook Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 LOL ... irregardless of the competition, you KNOW that this one will end up as a bumper sticker!
ChrisH Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Its a strong entry http://www.cantshootstraight.com/images/smilies/megarofl.gif
mac_shinobi Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Here is one I really liked lol : http://home.earthlink.net/~mr_neil/r34d.jpg Not sure about the copy right thing though , My realistic one I am still thinking about
mac_shinobi Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 One question, can the t shirt have something on either side ie the back and front ? Also I found this quote which I would put on my t shirt if I made one but in L33t so it isnt obvious to staff members what it said, at least for the most part. "Light travels faster than sound. That is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak."
mac_shinobi Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Another one ( not sure if this is copy right ) since it was in an above post so I am not trying to steal here but on one side of a shirt have : Network managers do it with the firewall on ! The back side of the shirt have : IT Technicians do it with the firewall off ! Or visa versa depending on how you look at it
ChrisH Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Also I found this quote which I would put on my t shirt if I made one but in L33t so it isnt obvious to staff members what it said, at least for the most part. Dont worry Im a seven year online gaming veteran I could translate anything you can come up with http://www.cantshootstraight.com/images/smilies/bluecap.gif

russdev Posted January 20, 2006 Author Posted January 20, 2006 if entering comp if could upload it as graphic dosnt have to appear on a t-shirt can just be words in picture format... just makes our life easier cheers russell
mac_shinobi Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 I am aware of gimp but does anyone or can anyone suggest any good graphic apps I could get for free just for typing or doing some neat textual effects like for the word bright or even light have them shining as though light is coming off of them or something like that ?
ChrisH Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Paint.net ? Not sure how good the text effects are but tis a good package.
mac_shinobi Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Here it is, hopefully someone can alter the dimensions of it.
mac_shinobi Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 If you could give me the URL's of the app or apps you suggest just so I get something decent, if not I will just do a basic one for now with regards to my above posts if you want and if it does get chosen I can obviously work out a better one later on.

russdev Posted January 20, 2006 Author Posted January 20, 2006 dont worry to much about dimensions etc as we can sort that later etc russ
mac_shinobi Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Just had to add something on to sysmans above post
mac_shinobi Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Here is a very simple , basic design of the previous shirt with the comment ( obviuosly will be made better then this if it gets selected or w/e ).
StewartKnight Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Not enough mention of EduGeek though! I Had on the front EduGeek, Helping Teachers on the back Look Stupid!
GrumbleDook Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Closing date will be 14th February ... unless we get asked to extend it ... Feel free to include the name of the site, the logo (or a version of it that you have done) and something that signifies how wonderful we all are. Just remember ... copyrights must be recognised ... which put paid to my wish of a picture of Darth Vader with the caption "Hi ... I'm Chris Byers ... and I used to be a SysAdmin before I turned away from the dark side". Not that I am trying to paint a picture here ... or say that all SysAdmins are megalomaniacs ... erm ... I'll get my coat.
ajbritton Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 How about this (I know it's a bit wordy but sadly it was the first thing to come into my head) On the front: EduGeek to rule them all, EduGeek to find them, EduGeek to bring them all and in the darkness bind them. On the back: (same as front but in elvish or something!)
GrumbleDook Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 erm ... do you want it written in elvish or translated into elvish ... or orcish ... or one of the dark languages ... I am sure I can find someone to do that ... with ease in fact ... Not that I ever used to speak elvish ... I used to speak Quenyan. There is a difference. erm ... IGMC
tosca925 Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 Whats the idea behind this? Are we going to get some printed and sell for members.? If so are we going to go for a cheap transfer printed t-shirt or something more professional like a embroided Polo shirt? LOL......just before i get my Photoshop head on.
