Encrypt Single File

Ive been asked to encrypt a single file on the network by the CP officer & chair of governors. The file is the CP file with all information it so obviously really sensitive.

 

The folder the file is in is restricted to just a few users and the file itself is password protected.

 

Any one else had to do this or something similar?

 

Ive just had a look at the builtin encryption settings on the advanced tab of the properties of a file but it doesnt look very good. Im playing with a test file and folder so as not to break the cp file!

As this is CP data, I'd say it needs to be protected by 2 passwords. The first is AD passwords with appropriate ACLs. On top of that I'd recommend VeraCrypt to produce an encrypted drive in which to store this (or these in the future) sensitive documents, putting the encrypted store in the CP folder you mentioned.

If the users are OK with using software to decrypt you could use VeraCrypt or even 7Zip. If you don't mind extra work setting it up I think you could create a Bitlockered VHD that you could let your users have access to.
