Printing Management - How many users? How many pages?

I think that the amount of printing is totally out of hand here!

 

Interested to know how many users/pages you print per day/week on average?

 

We have 3000 users and average 12-15,000 pages a day.

We average 1200 pages per day for 150 staff users and our 6th form. This doesn't include items sent to reprographics for printing. Include repro and we have hit 15,000 on occasion but average around 6,000.

We have approx. ~1700 users on the system, and pages today so far (14:17) is at 4,364

 

If you want to control it, seriously consider getting PaperCut - it's been a real eye opener since we installed in back in September 2014 - and has reduced our printing costs considerably.

(Not a school) ~320 users. November totaled 356,895 pages in 139,180 print jobs. The average job size is 2.5 pages. Yesterday we did 18,282 pages in 6,789 print jobs. Yielding a slightly higher average pages per job of 2.7. We have no print quotas / controls. I only have the papercut logger. All printers are leased photocopiers. Edited December 15, 2015 by Geoff

Close to 2000 users I would say here, total is around 2.4million in just over a Year.

 

We use Papercut and we've tightened up what they can print.

@gwendes I would say that if you are printing 12K-15K that is very excessive but at the end of the day all you can do is tell those above in reports the costs involved.

If those above don't care about the printing bill, what can you do.

 

I once had to show a HT some time ago a 32K 3 month bill, let's just say her reaction was beyond shock, she was fuming. The strange thing was, she approached another senior member of Staff and the response was "Oh well, we need to print".

 

Printing is something that has completely got out of hand but you are fighting a losing battle unless you have support from those above. We bill Depts which helps a bit, we've banned Students from doing certain things because we discovered Staff asking them to do it on their behalf to avoid dept charge.

 

It's attitude that needs to change, people still prefer to read on paper instead of on a screen ( I cant blame them but when it costs a fortune ) some people still print emails to "record" even though they can do that. In todays world with all this Technology there really is a lazy approach to paperless society.

+1 for papercut in education. The stats page helped a great deal in curtailing excessive use. Students at the college were given a free tenners worth at start of year, after that, they topped up via library payment. Staff had a £200 account, after which they had to justify to finance why they needed more… some staff where retrained on how to print responsibly when college was touting eco friendly credentials, then going through a tonne of paper a month!

It's the Admin-Curric divide here that's interesting.

 

In November on Admin we did 15,679 jobs, which was 155,801 pages...on Curric those figures were 7,247 and 14,011 respectively. Plus we have a full repro department going full time!!

Root cause is staff can't be bothered to use Repro properly.
