Terrible Outlook connectivity to O365 & I've no idea why

I hope someone can help me here, because I'm stumped, and it's getting really annoying.

 

Outlook's performance to Office 365 is intermittently atrocious. As in, click to the calendar and it'll freeze for a couple of minutes and pop up a balloon about "Exchange is experiencing connectivity issues".

 

It's not the filter. Happens when I turn the proxy off.

 

It's not the firewall. We've changed firewall in the last few months and it's still doing it.

 

Outlook is up to date and has the online services sign in assistant installed.

 

Anyone got any clues at all? The Exchange Connection Status shows failed requests but I've no idea why. So very frustrated with it

It may not be just you. My Outlook (version 2016) has been doing that exact same thing for about 3 weeks. Every now and then it just seems to lose connection for no apparent reason. It never used to do this

Have you tested all the things like Autodiscover connectivity?

it might be office 365. Earlier it was taking ages on teh web page to show an email id bonged to say i had new mail but wouldnt open it. At one point it also decided i diddnt have permission to send email and everything just went to drafts. Seems ok now though touch wood

Have you checked the Geolocation? You might not be routing through the best data center. You may need to use conditional forwarders for Office 365. - DNS geolocation for Office 365, connecting you to your nearest Datacenter for the fastest connectivity - On The Wire - Site Home - TechNet Blogs Edited December 14, 2015 by FN-GM

This has been months now, though it seems particularly annoying of late.

We had similar here and it turns out it didn't like being set to online only mode. I enabled caching (only around 200mb) and it got rid of all those issues.

Cached Exchange mode is greyed out for me under account settings, though, and as far as I can recall always has been during profile setup.

I can switch it on/off without any issue, but when I enable caching it seems to delay every email I receive from getting through by about 10 minutes??? Therefore I've always switched it off.
