abillybob Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 (edited) Hey Guys So I've replaced a domain controller server with a new one and installed Windows Server 2012 R2 on it. As normal I installed AD along with DNS and DHCP. What I can't get my head around is why some websites just won't work! nhs.uk is one of the main one's and is used by first aid and the admin team, it just won't load. It loaded perfectly fine when using 2008 R2. Most websites are fine Google works, BBC Works, Twitter, EduGeek etc... but this one just doesn't want to load. I know the site is up because I can go to the site from my phone's 3G connection and it works fine. The computers can't ping it either. Really strange anyone have an idea of what else I can do to fix it!? Edit: I should also mention it's a fresh install of DNS and I haven't touched anything, it looks perfectly fine.. jmak Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 I'm seeing similar symptoms on our established DC. I'm thinking it could be to do with the JANet issues - from what I read, it supports all sorts of government departments, not just education. The list of sites that don't work doesn't have an obvious pattern, but government sites are the worst. Working off site today so can't check specific sites for you at the minute. Our internet connection goes via County.

But then how come my phone can get to the site but the school still cannot!? Surely it would be down for my phone as well?

This is a fair point, because not all forwarders have records of funny domains like .nhs.uk You can try it out from a command prompt by typing nslookup www.nhs.uk 8.8.8.8 to use google public dns as your lookup server. If I do this, it doesn't work, but that is because I'm inside SWGFL and they squash my attempts to use another DNS service. 1

Oh I see so you're saying JANET will have effected us as a school not the NHS website!? Sorry I think I misunderstood. I don't know where to look for forwarders. If you mean Forward lookup zone area then it just has 2 folders in there under the domain's name and one with MSDCS before it. Sorry not to clued up when it comes to DNS!
