I've got a camera and it writes files as .AV files. I can play them, but I can't skip through them... although they do save in 30 minute chunks, which is handy, but I could do with skipping through.

Anyone got any experience with them?

Currently playing them through Media Player Classic. I've tried renaming them to .AVI and .MP4 but I still can't skip through them.

Any help appreciated!!

This is dumb... Google is just full of people asking how to use .AV files.

Why use a file format you can't use?

Best bet is to try the camera manufacturers and see what they say.

I like SuperSimple Video Converter, but our web filter doesn't: gromada.com/video_converter/

You could try something like PotPlayer to play it, but I suspect that if VLC isn't doing what you want...

what camera is it, had something similar here with a JVC which just put a standard AVI into a different container (essentially just changing the extension to avi made it work.

It an "SRICAM" and while changing the extension to AVI does allow it to play, I cannot seek through it still.

Didn't get chance to check the converted file. Will check in the morning!
