Hi Everyone,

Its nearly Friday!

We are after some interactive whiteboard pens for the whiteboards we have on-site. We have Hitachi Cambridge (All different version numbers)

I have found that sourcing pens for this board has become pretty difficult as Hitachi have discontinued the pen. The pen was a very light shade of grey with blue buttons, quite big in size.

We have Smart Boards in our primary school, so don't have this issue there

We managed to get some rechargeable pens working with them, which work pretty well, but its the cost that's the problem. For a pack of two with the charger it costs around £150! And as you know what teachers are like, once they are lost, well they are truly lost.

Any advice would be great!

Thanks in advance

Tom

Have you made the teachers aware of how much replacement pens cost, and that every time you have to buy replacements it's money that can't be spent on other teaching resources? Sounds like your teachers need some additional education!

Have told them many of times - We have started charging departments for replacement pens and for some reason the amount of helpdesk jobs for pens has dropped!

But still ridiculous how much they cost for what they are. Have been looking into touch screen plasma screens as replacements, which has worked well for our primary school

It's 20-25 year old tech, and the only market are teachers who have lost their pens. While I have paid less for them in the past, there are clearly enough people willing to pay the current price to make it worthwhile to continue to manufacture them.

If they were £30 I'd buy 200 tomorrow. But they aren't so we won't.

(I should add that the pens need new chargers, so one you have jutted out the site with new pens/chargers at £117 per room, any lost pens will only cost £35 to replace in the future.)
