Some of our users are constantly having issues with Google Mail Gmail app on our iPads (gmail ver 4.1 and iOS 9.1). Most of us have Gmail app working perfectly fine yet others get the following error when they load the app.

An unexpected error has occurred. Please try again later

No firewall or web filter issues have been identified on specific devices, it's just random. If we try to access email from safari browser, it works perfectly but app wouldn't work, no matter what. We also tried removing and reinstalling but no joy. We have checked the clock and it's correct, ran a web based captcha but still no luck.

Anyone having same issues? Or have fixed them?

Kindest regards

Does it work using the mail app?

Gmail iOS app doesn't work but it works perfectly through the browser, weird thing is, two iPads exactly same versions same updates, one works one doesn't. When you click the app it says Go to inbox or start tour. We click on go to inbox and error appears.

Have you tried closing down all instances of any open apps and rebooting it fully?

Yes including the home button and power button. Also closed all background apps and run an update still same issue.

we have a similar issue as where the contacts are not being synced from the domain, if a member of staff types in a particular name it does appear when they are typing an email from the ipad. unlike when you are on a computer and typing an email up all the names appear

I had reply from Google and they are investigating the issue. The unexpected error issue might get resolved on next app update. The sync issue somehow related to imap protocol? Not sure how but that's what I have been told. No fix with sync yet.

From what I understand this is normal behavior. Google likes its users to control their own contacts list. So if you go to google.com/contacts you can control your contacts.

These are synced to the iPad. Domain Address books don't sync but you can still search on the iPad. You can do this by opening up a new email > tap the + button to search contacts > Tap Groups at the top left > Tick Global Address List > It will go to a search area, you can now search all users in Google Domain. Can be slow due to the number of users you have. I haven't found a way to always have the global address book ticked. For each user you want to add to the email, you have to go through the steps again to search the global address book.

This is on the mail app, I'm not sure if there is a similar feature for the gmail app.

It isn't the permanent solution but o boy, you are fantastic RLR. This would def help and is surely an alternative. A big thank you for helping us out.
