iOS 9.1 and inappropriate emoji

Evening everyone,

Hope all is well.

 

To my surprise after updating our school devices to iOS 9.1, kids are able to see mid finger emoji which am sure to all extent inappropriate for School use especially primary schools. I tried to find a way to remove it or disable it but failed to do so. Has anyone found a resolution to this new issue that Apple decided to bring out with profound irresponsibility.

Using a custom keyboard app would be the only solution I think but it could be a bit of a nightmare to setup (as in each device manually)

Thank you Zerohour but that is only possible with one or two devices not 200+ iPads. Apple is simply being irresponsible and arrogant with this stupidity. They promoting their devices for education and then they're adding inappropriate content without any kind of moral social or ethical responsibility. Soon they'll allow adult content on the device or something horribly inappropriate for education use.

 

Disappointed......

Actually they're implementing a standard that pretty much all the manufacturers are implementing. And it's a cartoon middle finger. Not something I view with relish myself but hardly the fall of western civilisation.

Even if they did allow adult content on the devices in general (and they've been consistent in turning back that tide up until now) then you can still manage what is allowed on your particular devices can you not? I feel your reaction is a trifle over the top.

Imagine your child or school kid sending that emoji to you?

Disable the emoji keyboard. You can't do it using MDM, so you would have to do it manually on the iOS devices.

Inappropriate emoji are, in my opinion, not the issue here. The sentiment behind them is... I appreciate you don't agree but I don't see this as a technology issue, but rather a behavioral one. If a kid were to send a rude comment to me, I would be far more concerned as to the content of their message rather than the medium they're using to express it. If they were to write a rude word (or draw a hand giving the middle finger) on a bit of paper and hand it to me I wouldn't start calling for pens and paper to be banned. in any case, I see that @kierensaul has offered a possible solution. I don't know if its possible to enforce the custom keyboard they're suggesting with a MDM solution just to ensure that its properly locked down just to ensure that the fix is a robust one?

I did look into that option but that's not possible am afraid as our kids use the emoji for other apps.

Roberto let's not get into a discussion on 'technology' and 'social' differences and what we can do with paper and pen. There is a difference between naturally thinking of something and penciling it, and having being given a choice and an option. I believe we both have valid arguments and although am sure your intention is to help, I don't think the argument would help with this particular issue.
