Smoothwall Port Forwarding

Sorry if this is a stupid question but having never done this before thought I would ask for a little advice,

 

We have just had CCTV fitted and I have given the supplier an internal static IP address, he has asked if we can forward ports 85,554 & 8000 to that IP address so they can connect in remotely.

 

So how do I create the port forwarding rules to enable them to connect in remotely and view the cameras ???

Are you sure he hasnt asked if you can forward them to an external IP?

Now you see that's what i thought and what you would think is logical but he sure did say internal IP, I went away to do another job and when I came back he was gone so none the wiser till he returns on Wednesday.

I'd say you're both talking the same

 

If you forward the incoming ports to your internal IP after all (just phrasing I guess).

 

But you should just be able to do it under the port forwards option, however most LEA firewalls etc block that and some won't open it as we had that before. If they wanted to do work on the CCTV we had to remote them in first. Would query what they want it for too considering remote viewing would be bad

In Smoothwall It's under Networking > Configuration > Port Forwards.

 

The Local IP on that page would be your external interface and the target would be your internal IP you want to forward to. Like Steve21 said, it may be blocked elsewhere (either by LEA or any other firewall/service you have.

Thanks for the replies guys, I will have a look :-) I know its not the LEA as we are nothing to do with them what so ever and have no other firewall than the smoothwall box.

Just before you do go and allow it, has it been agreed they can have access to it? Data protection issue rings bells here.

 

Also if they are wanting to connect get their IP and lock it down so only their control room as such can access it, stops anyone been able to view it from the big bad world wide web!
