how to distinguish laptops for each department? Covers/Paint?/??

We have a two story building with a laptop trolley upstairs and one downstairs. Two separate departments situated on each floor, trouble we have is teacher or students taking laptops from the wrong trolley and leaving them there. Trouble we have is that when we do our checks at night we don't know what should be where and spend ages sorting this out.

 

Ideally we want some way of quickly identifying the laptops in the incorrect trolleys. We can only see the edge when the doors are open so ideally we want some identification on the edges of the laptops. We tried laptop covers but the kids pulled them off, we also tried colored stickers but again they got stripped off. Can anyone suggest a way of doing this, we thought about paint/spraying the edge but i'm guessing this would invalidate the warranty.

A small cable tie through the vent holes, colour coded to the set. Discrete, hard to remove, easy to replace and you can snip them off for warranty.

-Vinyl stickers

-Different logon and desktop backgrounds

-Different coloured label tape

-Death threats

The ones that are broken will be from P.E.

we use a dymo label printer and have Cab1-001 ect on it and Cab2-001 do determin what trolley our laptops belong in. we stick in on the very edge of the laptop screen and it is easily visible when they are in the trolley.

A sticker under the battery helps too for when the ones on the edge get peeled off.

Do you use Selectamark DNA? Maybe apply it on part of one set of laptops and one on another?
