I've just rolled out a new Windows 7 64 Bit image via SCCM to a load of machines with the Intel DB75EN motherboard. The only driver that doesn't get pushed to the clients properly is the Intel USB 3.0 driver, no biggie really as it only seems to be 2 ports on the back of the motherboard (underneath the NIC port) where the students and staff shouldn't be poking around anyway.

However just to settle my own curiosity I manually installed the driver from the Intel website which ends up blue screening the PC, when it restarts the driver appears to have 'installed' in device manager but if I plug anything into said USB 3.0 ports such as my USB3 pen it lights up but does nothing and is not detected by Windows yet it works fine in all the other ports so presumably down to the USB 3.0 not going on correctly, though I'm not really sure how to resolve it?!

Silly questions - is USB 3.0 enabled in the BIOS? Did you install the driver using Device Manager or the installer? Are these branded machines with a third party driver or self/custom builds?

@googlemad

I've had this same problem on a bunch of RM laptops - bluescreen after install of USB 3.0 drivers, but appeared to be installed afterwards. I worked out that it was something to do with my image, and if I tried a vanilla install, no windows updates... and installed the drivers straight away then it worked. Rather than spend countless hours hunting down the root cause I decided, like yourself, to remove the drivers, install the Standard USB drivers (treats it as usb 2.0) and have done with it, but I'm just as annoyed/curious as to why that happened.

It might just have been a coincidence, but I updated the BIOS on one of those RM laptops and I think that particular one didn't then have the bsod problem?? Worth a try if your BIOS already needs updating.

I tried one with the latest BIOS without much luck. I then tried uninstalling the driver through Add/Remove programs and that totally kills the machine to the point where Windows just loops round booting!

So looks like digging a little deeper, it's a fairly clean image too built in a VM so who knows what's upset it! :(

Well, the USB will deliver power whether the drivers are installed or not, hence the USB stick lighting up.

Did you get exactly the right driver? I've seen different controllers behave very oddly if drivers for similar (but not identical) controllers are installed
