sarchs Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 We have one netbook that we cannot remember the password for the bios. It does not allow me to boot into windows, it says no boot devices are available. I have googled how to reset a bios password for acer aspire v5-121 but nothing works. I can get acer to fix this but i am looking at £50 which is more than the netbook is worth. Can anyone help?

sarchs Posted November 4, 2015 Author Posted November 4, 2015 We have looked on the motherboard. There are no jumpers. There is a cmos battery we have taken that out and it still does not work
gtg93 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 (edited) We have looked on the motherboard. There are no jumpers. There is a cmos battery we have taken that out and it still does not work Have you removed all other power sources along with teh CMOS and allowed it to sit for a while? This usually does the job... Failing that, how old is it, and what BIOS is it using? I have some BIOS password tools which may help... The error code in some BIOSs can be used to extract a working password. StampStudy Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Look under the memory modules (remove them) and look for something that says JMCMOS. You may need an electronic conductivity tool to bridge the two points of the jumper to reset.

sarchs Posted November 4, 2015 Author Posted November 4, 2015 Nothing says JMCMOS unfortunately, just a large number of C and R's
gtg93 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 (edited) System BIOS Version - V2.08 VGA BIOS Version - ATI VGA VER015.021.000.000.043136 Do ATI do their own BIOS? I always assumed someone else did them and they were rebadged... Anyway, don't have a tool specifically for ATI BIOS, but on some occasions I've had the tools work for different models / versions... They're a few years old, but pulled me out of a few tight spots - CLICKY - hopefully they'll work for you. Edited November 4, 2015 by gtg93
sarchs Posted November 4, 2015 Author Posted November 4, 2015 That would be worth a try but also i cannot get past bios in terms of - powering the laptop on it comes up with no bootable device. Hit any key

Hit any key Sorry, my mistake - misunderstood the issue. Have you tried another HDD or booting to a USB? Sounds like the HDD might have failed.
sarchs Posted November 5, 2015 Author Posted November 5, 2015 We have tried a hard drive from an identical netbook. We have 32 of these and it's just this one that we cant get into the bios. I think secure boot is enabled as i have tried booting to a usb pen without any luck. The BIOS manufacturer is InsydeH20
