thomvickers Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Follow the instructions below to get Sibelius 7.5 or 7.5.1 to play nice with Yosemite & Sibelius License Server. 1. On a client machine, start a Terminal Window (MacHD > Applications > Utilities > Terminal) 2. Type or copy/paste this command and execute it:cd /Library/Application\ Support/Avid 3. Then this one:sudo mkdir Sibelius\ 7.5 4. Then this one:sudo chmod –R 775 Sibelius\ 7.5 5. Then this one:cd Sibelius\ 7.5 6. Then this one:sudo mkdir _manuscript 7. Then this one:cd _manuscript 8. Then this one:sudo touch LicenceServerInfo 9. Then this one:sudo chmod –R 775 LicenceServerInfo 10. Then this one:vi LicenceServerInfo 11. The Terminal Window will change, but press 'i' on your keyboard and the option 'Insert' will appear at the bottom 12. This means it's in 'text edit' mode in Terminal. Type your server’s IP address like this: 172.0.0.1 (whatever your particular server's IP may be of course) 13. Now press the Esc key 14. Then type and execute this::wq 15. Now close the Terminal. Start Sibelius 7.5. The Sibelius 7.5 client should now see the Licence Server on the IP in question and launch as a network client. Note the spelling of "Licence"! Treat all commands here as case-sensitive.
3s-gtech Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Reckon this'll fix some of the Sibelius 8 issues too?
thomvickers Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 From what I understand of the v8 issues, very probably. It sounds like the same issue with Sibelius not having the correct permissions set and thus being unable to create this directory & file for itself. 1
Carter Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Odd, what are your issues prior to this fix? I've had no issues at all and I've been running the Sibelius server since last year with Yosemite.
thomvickers Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 Fresh install of Yosemite (10.10.5) and Sibelius (7.5.1). Logged in as administrator. When you start the software, it detect the licensing server, you click OK then Sibelius instantly closes. No error message, nada. It's a known issue but strangely hard to find out a relatively simple solution. Also hard to understand why such a simple solution hasn't resulted in a small patch or some sort of official fix or announcement. From what I understand of the fix given by their customer support above, Sibelius 7.5 is unable to create the folders in Application Support with the necessary permissions and thus unable to store the License Server's IP address.
Carter Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Oh, that. I had that issue and the fix was to just delete the folder "Sibelius 7" found at "/Library/Avid/". Once this is deleted you just need to run the app again and now when you enter in the server it will work. I added it into my default profile script that creates the default user to delete this folder so it's already gone when the computers are imaged. If you want to push out the server setup via ARD so you don't have to go around to the computers manually you can then just copy the "Sibelius 7" folder from a known good computer that Sibelius runs on then with ARD push out the "Sibelius 7" folder to "/Library/Avid/" on the lab/client computers and then the program will just launch without any need of entering in the server.
thomvickers Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 Yes, I plan to do this for future builds. Just thought I'd put this fix 'out there' for others to see to save them having to search high & low like I did.
cshephard Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I installed Sibelius V8 network server and couldn't activate my server. Avid have given me a temporary activation for each of my machines until they can fix the problem.
