  1. Hi everyone I am currently working on a Windows 10 image and had trouble setting the desktop wallpaper through group policy. After disabling the policy that prevents users from changing the desktop image, it now works but is there another way to stop them from changing the desktop? Or am I just doing something silly? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
  2. Hi there I work for a library that is shared with 3 universities. we have our own AD network which our PC's are joined to. All of our networks are linked, so students can come in and log in with their own university UNIVERSITY\USER I have joined a mac to our AD domain and have tried logging in with my accounts for the other uni's but can't. Is there a way to do UNIVERSITY\USER like we can on the pc? Can it be done without joining to other domains? Thanks

    Java JRE

I have an online training site that requires Java JRE between 1.6.0.03 and 1.6.0.39. I have looked all over and cannot find a mac osx download for this. Is anyone able to help me with this? I am running OSX 10.9.2 With Safari and Chrome. Thanks
  4. Our users log on to our macs with their AD logins. Is there a way I can make their AD credentials authenticate the proxy on log in? Currently I have the proxy set on the local admin account with my AD login authenticating it, but when students and staff log in, they are asked to enter their AD credentials. Thanks
  5. Is there a way I can manage launchpad for all users on my mac network?
  6. Did you have any joy with this? I forgot to mention before, turning off local home folders means you cannot use imovie as it will not let you save the library on a network location.
  7. In the days of WGM it was easy to edit the PLISTS and setup the sidebar how you wanted, but in the newer OS's and PM you can't do it. If you could tell me how you get around it, that would be amazing. I have tried for ages to sort this out. Thanks
  8. Hi everyone I have my mac network set up with AD and OD. Users log in with their AD logins and their windows home areas and shared area mount on login. Originally we turned off the local home folder option so that their windows area was the main one and they wouldn't end up saving things locally. The problem we had with this was, the library settings folder created itself in their windows areas and a lot of these were corrupting causing students to get lots of keychain messages and sometimes they were unable to access certain things. So to cure this I turned the local folder back on so that this library folder was saved on the mac instead. Now default save location is the local area and despite making guides and telling people how to access the windows area, they still save locally... Does anyone know of a way to make this work with having local areas turned off, or changing the default path to the windows shares instead? I cant even place the windows share in the finder sidebar which would be useful. Thanks in advance
  9. We have a bunch of Surface RT's which currently have local policies set on them restricting certain apps and a script that starts on login, gets the user to authenticate and mounts their AD shares. We would like to set these devices up so that they remote to a virtual machine and can be used like a normal PC. Has anyone done this and if so what is the best way to go about it? Thanks
  10. So maybe I need to do what you said before and manually download the updates and put them on sccm then I can choose when they go out. I know other people use ARD to do it. We did look into getting that as its a cheap download from the app store but someone told us you need licenses for each machine or something? Do any of you use ARD, if so did you just download it on the app store and can use it with as many macs as you want?
  11. We have looked at Munki before but thought it would be good if we could get it working through SCCM. That way, we keep everything together. Norphy, does your way mean manually downloading each update and then doing that? The guide we found allowed you to make sccm run a script that checks the macs update log file and if it finds new updates, it will install them. The macs register back to sccm and package distribution works, but the updates don't and when we paste the script into terminal on the mac, it dosen't like it. So we think the problem is there. Knowing nothing about apple scripts, we are at a loose end at the moment. This is the guide I have been following - System Center Configuration Manager 2012 SP1: Automatic Updates on a Mac - South Central District Client Team - Site Home - TechNet Blogs and this is the script we have been playing with: if [ -e testfile ] then if grep /usr/sbin/softwareupdate /etc/crontab then echo entry exist waiting for cron to run else echo "30 * * * * root /usr/sbin/softwareupdate -l &> /tmp/softwareupdate.log" >> /etc/crontab fi else echo "SHELL=/bin/sh" > /etc/crontab echo "PATH=/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin" >> /etc/crontab echo "30* * * * root /usr/sbin/softwareupdate -l &> /tmp/softwareupdate.log" >> /etc/crontab fi /bin/cat /tmp/softwareupdate.log Thanks
  12. How do others do this for multiple machines on their networks? We use microsoft sccm to distribute packages to our windows machines, and read somewhere you can also use it on macs. We installed the client on a test machine and enrolled it. We were able to put a package into sccm and push that out to our mac. We found this guide telling you how to set up automatic updates but cannot make it work. I don't really know anything about scripting but when we take the script in the guide and put it straight into terminal, it won't work. Has anyone else been successful with this? Thanks
  13. We had this on our macs. Windows somehow kept breaking the permissions on this folder as well so students were always being asked to enter keychain passwords. Deleting the library folder would fix it short term. In the end I changed it so that AD users forced a local area on the macs and this would have their library folders. AD user areas still mounted, so I just had to let them know which one was which so they didn't start saving work locally. Not ideal but the only way round I could find!
  14. I did check that. Previously when I put the proxy on them, I had to add the server as an exception to make it work. Thats all set and internet is working but still no joy
  15. I installed Sibelius V8 network server and couldn't activate my server. Avid have given me a temporary activation for each of my machines until they can fix the problem.
  16. Yesterday I was able to enrol macs and push settings to them. I have now tried building some new mini macs and they won't enrol properly and I can't even push any settings out to any of the enrolled machines. If I make a change or enrol a machine, it dosen't even show up as a pending task. I have restarted the server, tried turning off the profile manager service and OD service off then turning them back on again re creating my OD master Checking my server and client are pointing to the same DNS server and checking they are on that server (Windows Server 2012 DNS Server) Checking my push notification in date which it is All the ports apple say need to be open for it are open on the firewall Can anyone suggest anything else? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks
  17. This keyboard does have symbols on for iTunes controls and sound controls, but when you press them, they don't work. I think one is set to hot corners or something? and its set brightness to F14 and 15. I don't mind them being different, just would be nice to be able to control them from the keyboard still. Would be so handy if this Key app I mentioned earlier would apply to system rather than user. I tried keyboard shortcuts in the system prefs but nothing there for volume. If theres no way, I may just have to leave a sound icon on the top bar.
  18. Hi I have 7 new mac mini's which will be going out soon. We decided not to buy apple keyboards as the ones we currently have seem to get broken easily. We instead went for some Cherry ones. I have found that the function buttons along the top do not work. Does anyone know of a good way to make the function buttons work the same as on the apple keyboards? I did come across a piece of software called Karabina which was able to do it only for individual users. I need to be able to change this for anyone who logs on. Thanks for your help
  19. It was and I tried renewing it and that still didn't work. We had problems when we first set the system up and it turned out that we didn't have the right ports unblocked on our firewall. We haven't changed those and the DNS is all the same as well. Could running that command have broken anything?
  20. Hi everyone I am suddenly having problems with pushing settings on profile manager. I had it setup so that some settings would apply to machine groups and other settings to OD groups that contained AD users. I had to add all AD users to the groups because adding AD groups would not work. This worked fine and now suddenly I noticed yesterday the user group settings were no longer pushing but machine settings were. I made a change to the group which left 90 odd pending tasks. I wanted to clear these and found a couple of commands that I thought would do it. I firstly tried this one sudo psql -U _devicemgr -d devicemgr_v2m0 -h /Library/Server/ProfileManager/Config/var/PostgreSQL -c "DELETE FROM library_item_tasks WHERE completed_at IS NOT NULL" This one didn't work so tried this one sudo psql -U _devicemgr -d devicemgr_v2m0 -h /Library/Server/ProfileManager/Config/var/PostgreSQL -c "DELETE FROM library_item_tasks" Since running this one, I cannot push any settings. They don't even show up as a pending task. I don't know if I have broken the SQL or not. I don't know anything about SQL so have no idea I am tempted to just wipe it all and start again but would like to try and fix it if I can as the students still need to work on them. We run Yosemite on all the macs and I yesterdayy upgraded Server app to the latest version hoping that would help. Any help would be much appreciated as I am all out of ideas. Thanks in advance!
  21. Hi all So I have 15 macs running OSX 10.10.5 being managed by Profile Manager and built with Deploy Studio. I want to push out our proxy server information to each machine. Only problem is, in profile manager you have to choose the connection type and we have most of them connected with Ethernet and a handful on wifi. I seem to remember with WGM you could set a proxy and it set on them all without having to choose a connection either. Has anyone found a way around this with profile manager? Thanks
  22. Renaming seemed to fix this issue. Thanks a lot for your help.
  23. I've not heard of deep freeze so I'm going to go with no! I saw something about it when I was googling the problem? What is it? I will try renaming the machine to see if that helps. Thanks:)
  24. One of my macs on our network seems to be loosing its AD and OD Bindings. We manually re bind it each time but it still manages to loose it again the next morning. The macs on our network all run OSX Yosemite and are managed through Profile Manager. They were all built with Deploystudio and I have a configuration file that enrolls them at the end of the task sequence. I also have directories set up in Profile Manager. All 15 of the machines have been fine and now this one machine has started doing this. I cant really find much when looking online for answers. Has anyone else come across this problem? Any help would me much appreciated. Thanks
  25. Could I be cheeky and ask for a copy of you El Captain sidebar plist file?
